Daniel Tiger themed chocolate birthday cake and cupcakes (egg-free, whole wheat)

No new recipe! Just sharing pictures of a cake and cupcakes I made for a friend’s daughter today. Blogger friends over at the Novice Gardener’s Fiesta Friday #30, I’m a little late for the party, but have some delicious dessert for you!
The little girl loves Daniel Tiger and the edible frosting was purchased from an online source. My friend was not particular about the flavor of the cake, she just wanted a healthy cake and some fun cupcakes for the kids at the party.
I baked a 9″ x 13″ chocolate cake to fit the frosted sheet (which was straight forward), and 12 cup cakes with the same batter. I spent some time decorating the cupcakes to make little tigers. In order to avoid using artificial colorΒ in the cupcakes meant for kids, I just used chocolate for the frosting, so it does not look very Daniel-like in terms of color. π
To get the recipe for the cake and frosting, go over to myΒ earlier postΒ of chocolate birthday cakes.
It is easy to guess what went into the frosting, right? Melted chocolate mixed with some icing for the whiskers…
And left over cake bits molded for the nose and ears!
Have a good weekend, everyone!

These are so cute. I love that you have managed to decorate them so convincingly without using garish colours – just the icing and cake. Now that I have become a grandmother, I am renewing my interest in fun baked things. He’s a bit young yet, but will keep these ideas in store for the future.
Sure! I’m sure you’ll have fun baking for your grandkid! π
